MAIN OBJECTIVE The overall objective of BIOREMIP project is to develop, test, apply and recommend biotechnological systems able to remove inorganic and/or organic persistent pollutants from the environment by bioremediation. These systems consist of bacteria or/and fungi (isolated form soils/water), and plants, with capacity to bioaccumulate target contaminants, explored and exploited individually as well as in partnership, in a synergic interaction, in order to bioremediate and restore the quality of contaminated environments. EXPECTED RESULTS AND IMPACTS Scientific and existing knowledge: BIOREMIP will contribute to the extension of existing knowledge and research platform of the project research group, but also to the updating and improvement of related technical, research knowledge for exploiting microbial and plant potential and interactions in a sustainable way, in removing persistent pollutants based on biotechnology tools, addressing both environmental problems and application for agricultural lands restoration. The project will generate an integrated approach, giving a global perspective on the most eco-efficient bioremediation methods. Research potential: The development and implementation of BIOREMIP outcomes will produce a series of positive effects at different levels: on research potential of the project team, on academic environment and on the overall understanding that the use of the microbial and plant resources may have a major beneficial effect on environmental cleanup in a sustainable and effective way. Progress and development: BIOREMIP impacts are in the frame of supporting the growth and development of bioeconomy in national and European context. The contribution of bioremediation using microbes-plants synergism will maximize the benefits of this partnership for both environmental agricultural and profit. The outcomes and knowledge about beneficial microbes-plant synergism can have a significant impact in reducing anthropogenic stresses on environment, global biodiversity, agricultural values. Inter-, multi- and trans-disciplinary research: The project encompasses a large inter-disciplinary research and development, since it integrates information, data, techniques, tools, perspectives, concepts and theories from a number of disciplines (biotechnology, soil and water chemistry, engineering, socio-economics, decision-making. The multi-disciplinarity is highly envisaged. Elements from different scientific field area will be introduced. The impact of trans-disciplinary character addresses integrated theoretical and applied studies. Environmental policy and strategies: BIOREMIP outcomes can have a relevant impact on the improvement of policies, strategies and practices for the reduction of environmental contamination, which is taken into consideration for the member countries of the European Union (EU), particularly in Romania. Dissemination and exploitation of results: Well defined dissemination and exploitation plans of project results is a crucial step for project expected impacts. The research team involved in the generation of new knowledge and the development of new insights, methods and processes in the project will ensure an effective dissemination of outcomes and results in books, PhD theses, publishes papers, participation in international conferences, protection of Intellectual Property Rights. |
